Fall Into the Ocean

The air has cleared up on the coast and the Northern hemisphere is coming alive. Looking out on a clear morning, fishing boats are heading out, a few early surfers paddle out for a quick wave before work, and the smell of bacon hovers in the air from a nearby kitchen. Beyond the waves and tides, I often wonder what's happening underneath the surface we see. Researchers in Mexico are deploying deep acoustically tracked sensors to find out just what's happening down there. Also, on the surface of the ocean, Japan just took its first gold medal in surfing! See more about both of these stories below.

Understand the Ocean By Watching

The WaveClock gives you a continuous view of the waves and tides. We've released the new Wine Barrel WaveClocks to really elevate the beauty of your view! These make incredible one-of-a-kind gifts for the Holidays.  We will have some upcoming sales, so keep checking during "cyberweek" and as we approach December.

Also, you're sure to love the continuing art from Wetfeet Photography and Ventana Surfboards and Supplies. Check them out on ETSY. Stay tuned and follow us on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter for the latest info. We'll let you know here first!

A final exciting tidbit is that our East Side Eatery team won the 2018 Chili cook-off.  We'll be sharing the recipe in upcoming posts.

Happy and Safe Fall to Everyone!

Over the past decade, oceanographers released more than 150 floats throughout the Gulf of Mexico, where they followed the ocean currents over a mile below the surface. The floats are tracked acoustically using beacons throughout the Gulf that emit sounds that the floats pick up. It's yielded some fascinating ocean patterns here.
The only way to see the waves and tides is in real time.
WaveClocks are your gateway to the ocean. The Wine Barrel WaveClocks are here. The WaveClocks are made from single pieces of redwood and other hardwoods to show you at a glance what's happening with the waves and tides at your favorite spot. A perfect holiday gift for someone special, or just for yourself. The latest ones are up on our ETSY store!
